Pondering Pax Americana and the government ‘shut-down’ | CONTRARY BRIN

Going beyond the knee-jerk platitudes from the right and the left:

Pondering Pax Americana and the government ‘shut-down’ | CONTRARY BRIN.

“Pax Americana will be finished. Which has been the aim of Rupert [Murdoch] & Co., all along.” –David Brin

Presumably Pax Americana is to be replaced by some privatized, neo-feudal world order. What might be a good “Pax” name for it; and might it be a necessary evil given the limits to growth, human nature, etc.? Does liberal democracy require material abundance? Are humans ultimately too mad (irrational) to govern ourselves under precarious conditions?

Ben Franklin said:

“Only a virtuous people are capable of freedom. As nations become more corrupt and vicious, they have more need of masters.”

WWIII

What we see in places like Syria may ultimately spread to the whole world.

IMO World War III will include civil wars, often with more than two factions, within many existing states concurrent with international conflicts.

So there will be alliances and hostilities both within and across national boundaries. Both alliances and hostilities will be based on a wide variety of factors from geography to class to religion.

As this goes on, perhaps for hundreds of years, there may be a global resorting of populations according to various affinities and identities–and in the end the geopolitical map may be completely redrawn.

Hopefully the new world order won’t be a global corporatocracy, but it very well might be.
